Barbwire hill was rerouted to avoid any land owner disputes, at least at that location. I'm not sure if he will continue to bully us into neglecting that section of the park. On the bright side , the reroute adds a small rock garden.
A very ignorant and criminal landowner placed barbed wire stung between two trees at head, chest and waist level. The trail comes from and leads to the park only about 20 yards length of trail enters this private property following the natural contour of the land. The sticks you see leaning on the barbed wire were put there by me and two other riders. Thankfully we were going up the hill toward the barbed wire and from the downhill side he did mark it with a yellow signed nailed to the tree. But from the uphill side, there is now warning of the three strands of barbed wire between two trees crossing the trail. This trail has been here for many years, fallen in disrepair except for the sections he uses regularly with his ATV's that are entirely in the park, most likely due to this landowners scare tactics. That orange flag in front of the tree is approximately the property line, so I contend that the tree in the picture is the private and the other end of the barbed wire is on park property. I have spoken to him in the past and got the impression from him that only he has the right to enjoy this section of the park. Employing any method he chooses to deter access to well worn trails adjacent to his property. Furthermore, this landowner is poaching game and firewood from within the park boundary. I searched for and located all the property corners in question in this area of the park and in the process I found at least 3 illegally place deer stands on park property. This landowner is well known by Natural Resources Police for past illegal activity. Bluffing, at our first encounter, that he was calling DNR about the trail work we are doing, he never called. I now called his bluff and called NRP and reported his poaching of fire wood and deer as well as the booby trap of barbed wire. Please RSVP so I can be prepared for the work details. See the previous posts for where and when for the scheduled work days.
Just a reminder to mark your calendar and please RSVP for the up coming work days.
I'm excited to announce that Performance is sponsoring the May 18 work date. Check out Sean P. at Performance and thank him for his support. Work to begin both work days at 9 am to 1 pm. April 27 is Serve Fest at Graham Equestrian Center. Graham is located at the Big Gunpowder at Harford Rd. Mountain bikes are permitted and welcome to ride at Graham. The area is accessible from the white blazed Big Gunpowder Trail to the Blue blazed trail at the Jennifer Branch just inside the park from Harford Rd. trail head. It adds about 2.5 miles and some hills to the ride. We will be rerouting a trail and adding stone and fabric like at Harford Rd. May 18 at Jerusalem Mill, the mill race has a tree blocking the trail and Friends of Jerusalem Mill want to try to create somewhere for the water to drain from the race. May 18 will also be volunteer work on the Bank Barn. Rick Decker is leading that project and has a catered lunch for after work with a permit for some libations, Rick invited us to join the party. I have two planned trail maintenance activities coming up.
