Trail Work - 11/16/24Worked on multiple sites in the Guyton region of the park. Added water diversion and defined a better trail tread at the middle entrance off of Guyton Rd. Completed a small reroute away from the river on the Guyton Flats and added water diversion and redefined the trail on the Popular, I Mean Sycamore trail. Also worked on the Hasselhoff curve and improved a stream crossing.

Trail Work - 10/12/24Worked on a section of the Winterfell trail, where a fallen tree and its uplifted root ball had damaged the trail. We eliminated the resulting dip and restored the original flow. Also did some bench cutting of the Split Log Climb trail, off of the Flats, eliminating an off-camber, rooty section.

Trail Work - 9/14/24Rerouted a section of the A-Side Flats, near Bel Air Rd, that was collapsing due to water running underneath the trail. Worked out a solution with the park, using paver stones where water is expected to possibly flow. Closed off the old section of trail.

Trail Work - 8/10/24Continued work started down in the Franklinville area. made further progress on a reroute of the lower-lying trail, getting out of the marsh and up onto the ridge.

Trail Work - 7/13/24Worked down in the Franklinville area. Reworked and supported a section where the trail was falling off into the river. Made good progress on a reroute of the lower-lying trail, getting out of the marsh and up onto the ridge.

Trail Work - 6/8/24Rerouted two small sections of trail around a couple of chronic mud holes. Bumped the trail up to a slightly higher elevation to allow for better drainage. Also repaired / restored several stream crossings including heavily armoring the Dick Branch (waterfall branch).

Trail Work - 5/11/24Cleared several large downed trees, cleared a bunch of overgrowth, and adjusted and armored a small wet section of trail, as well as cleaned up multiple rock gardens. This is an ongoing effort to restore and maintain the river trail at the Big Gunpowder, between Harford and Bel Air Roads, on the south side.

Trail Work - 4/13/24We worked on restoring the raised trail bed through the very rocky section of the A-side flats, creating some water channels and diversion to help make it more sustainable. Drains were also cleared and persistent mud holes de-mucked and remediated. Great turn out today!

Trail Work - 3/9/24
Work included extensive storm clean up, scraping muck / sand, clearing drains, and restoring stream crossings. One crossing on the flats was adjusted as the original was no longer passable and multiple alternate crossings had begun to form. Two groups worked separately to focus on the flats and Amy's Trail.

Trail Work - 10/14/23Cleaned up the staging areas near the scout bridge where the gravel had been stored under the large black tarps. Utilized what was left to raise the trail in a few more low spots and naturalized the areas where the gravel had been. Performed some other small repairs. Thanks to all who came out on this damp morning.

Trail Work - 9/16/23Improved a section of trail along the flats, where there had been significant exposure, rocks and roots. Today we widened the trail tread and supported the outside edge by building crib walls, along a section of existing trail. This portion of the trail is now far more accessible to all, including emergency vehicles. Huge improvement, thanks to all who came out!

Trail Work - 8/13/23Created a raised trail bed and sufficient water diversion and drains at a persistent mud hole on the Flats. Cleared or created some other drains and built up and reinforced the section of trail near the Triple Creek crossing. Also performed some trimming to improve site lines. Much appreciation to those that took the time to come out today!

Trail Work - 7/8/23Created additional parking at the Laurel Brook / Bottom road parking area and continued work on the reroute of a small section of trail, along the Guyton flats, where the trail was deteriorating from Beaver activity. All work was done with Harford County Roads and Park management approval. Big thanks to all that made it out today and to those who support our efforts.

Trail Work - 5/13/23Work consisted of continued improvements on the gravel sections, digging of drains along the flats and significant trimming on both sides of the waterfall, the flats and a large part of Winterfell. Thanks to the Northern Baltimore County Copperheads MTB team members and coaches for coming out and for the brand new donated wheelbarrow to add to the fleet!

Trail Work - 4/15/23Work continued and was largely completed on creating a raised trail bed on low-lying sections of the Flats, to make the trail more sustainable. More gravel and stone dust was moved and a puncheon (small bridge) section was completed. Big thanks to the crew that came out and did hard work!

Trail Work - 3/11/23A significant project was undertaken to turnpike low-lying sections of the Flats, to make the trail more weather-resistant and usable throughout the year. Work involved placement and securing of lumber and lots of transport of gravel and stone dust. Great volunteer turnout today, with plenty of Gunpowder Mill Racers student-athletes and coaches! We still have work remaining on this effort. Special thanks to Earl Preston Septic and United Rentals for material delivery and equipment donations!

Trail Work - 10/15/22Work occurred toward the end of A Boy Named Sue and the White trail. Work consisted of several mud hole repairs, repair of the stream crossing, and the start of a switchback reroute, just past the crossing that will replace the existing trail that is on the fall line.

Trail Work - 9/4/22Built the foundation for a bridge that will span the first stream crossing closest to Harford Road. The foundation is built with all locally sourced, repurposed lumber. This was the first step in a project started by a local Eagle Scout who not only designed the bridge, but crowd sourced over $7,000.00 for the materials to build the bridge. The bridge will be primarily for pedestrian traffic and should be completed this fall.

Trail Work - 8/13/22Work was done on the new Quarry trail as well as significant trimming on the flats. This project completes the second half of the Quarry trail. The newest sections are a reroute of the fire road / T Bone climb, an existing steep rocky climb. The reroute follows contour lines and makes for a more gradual and sustainable climb up to the Overlook. Thank you to all that came out and worked!

Trail Work - 7/10/22Continued work on the on the reroute of the fire road section of the Quarry Trail. Work included lots of armoring, rock work, water diversions and turn support. Rerouted section will make a nice addition to a section of trail already known for it's technical aspects. Significant trimming was done on Amy's Trail, the Bel Air Rd side of the Quarry Trail and the old Blue Trail. Great turnout this month. Big thanks to all those that came out and got dirty.

Trail Work - 5/14/22Cleaned up a washed out section of trail along the white blaze trail off Bottom road. Added several water diversions and created a more sustainable trail. Water will drain along original line and still leave a challenge for those that prefer a more technical climb.

Work included a reroute on the flats by the first stream crossing, armoring of the new stream crossing, and a reroute at the meadow to avoid chronic wet/muddy spots on the low corner. Trail Work - 2021Got back to a more normal work schedule this year and got plenty done. Work included rebuilding the stream crossing on the Flats, eliminating persistent mudholes on Trombone, water control on the Winterfell descent, improvements to Jesse's Trail near Bel Air Rd and water diversion on the climb to the Railroad, as well as work on the entrances to the Bottom Rd Trail and Tears of Tom.

Trail Work - 2019A productive year where we worked on what is now the new Jesse's Trail, built a bridge on that trail, built a double plank bridge off of Harford Rd, an Amy's Trail reroute and small bridge, built an earthen bridge near the entrance to a Boy Named Sue, a Horse Poop loop reroute, a reroute near the Overlook and what is now the Bel Air Rd side of the Quarry Trail.

Trail Work - 2018Seven trail work events this year resulted in a shifted waterfall trail, with some rock armoring in the middle, water diversion in the meadow, a reroute of the white trail, just off of Bottom Rd, a significant effort to create a more beginner-friendly line on the flats between Harford and Bel Air Rds and a raised turnpike as well, repaired the eroded side trail by the steps off of the Bel Air Rd parking lot and rerouted the trail that descends from the rail bed below Petticoat Junction.

Trail Work - 2017A very active year started with relocating a structure to cover and protect a bee hive oven at Jerusalem Mill. Then there was the switchback to the railbed, a waterfall trail reroute, a bridge build to replace the Pleasantville plank, clearing of Railroad Pass 3, some raised trail beds, a new hiker crossing at the top of the waterfall and lastly, the trail that parallels Bottom Rd. There were some big rides, with 50+ people for the MORE Discovery Ride and 30+ for the 3rd Annual Memorial Ride for Jesse.

Trail Work - 2015Plenty of work was done, but before we really started documenting it! The chicken wire bridge was rebuilt, twice, on The B-Side flats and a muddy stretch of the Flats was rerouted into the meadow, to name a couple.

High Water in the Park - June 2015Water ravaged through the park after heavy rains. Reroute created away from the bank that is eroding away. Trail tread with ankle deep water showed where we needed to cut some drains.
