A Look Back at 2025

From night rides to snow rides, from our first LGP race (6 Hours at the Mill) to the MORE Get To Know LGP Ride, from multiple puncheon builds to the Amy's Bridge replacement, from trail work to clearing trees, from riding with kids to riding in pajamas, it was a full and fulfilling year in 2025!

Trail Work - 7/12/25

Various sections of the Winterfell trail were de-bermed and drains re-established. Extensive trimming was done on Amy's Trail (aka B-Side Flats) as well as Winterfell. Light turnout today, but big thanks to those that attended!

10 Volunteers, 4 Hours of Work

Trail Work - 6/14/25

With help from members of the North Baltimore County Copperheads NICA team, we mitigated erosion by adding water diversion to multiple locations on the climb at the end of the Guyton Flats. A couple sections also received minor route adjustments.

19 Volunteers, 3 Hours of Work

Trail Work - 3/8/25

Worked on multiple sites in the Jerusalem Mill area of the park, largely in preparation for the upcoming 6 Hours at the Mill race.

33 Volunteers, 4 Hours of Work

Trail Work - 11/16/24

Worked on multiple sites in the Guyton region of the park. Added water diversion and defined a better trail tread at the middle entrance off of Guyton Rd. Completed a small reroute away from the river on the Guyton Flats and added water diversion and redefined the trail on the Popular, I Mean Sycamore trail. Also worked on the Hasselhoff curve and improved a stream crossing.

17 Volunteers, 4 Hours of Work

Trail Work - 10/12/24

Worked on a section of the Winterfell trail, where a fallen tree and its uplifted root ball had damaged the trail. We eliminated the resulting dip and restored the original flow. Also did some bench cutting of the Split Log Climb trail, off of the Flats, eliminating an off-camber, rooty section.

15 Volunteers, 4 Hours of Work

Trail Work - 9/14/24

Rerouted a section of the A-Side Flats, near Bel Air Rd, that was collapsing due to water running underneath the trail. Worked out a solution with the park, using paver stones where water is expected to possibly flow. Closed off the old section of trail.

15 Volunteers, 4 Hours of Work

Trail Work - 8/10/24

Continued work started down in the Franklinville area. made further progress on a reroute of the lower-lying trail, getting out of the marsh and up onto the ridge.

17 Volunteers, 3.5 Hours of Work

Trail Work - 7/13/24

Worked down in the Franklinville area. Reworked and supported a section where the trail was falling off into the river. Made good progress on a reroute of the lower-lying trail, getting out of the marsh and up onto the ridge.

23 Volunteers, 3.5 Hours of Work

Trail Work - 6/8/24

Rerouted two small sections of trail around a couple of chronic mud holes. Bumped the trail up to a slightly higher elevation to allow for better drainage. Also repaired / restored several stream crossings including heavily armoring the Dick Branch (waterfall branch).

15 Volunteers, 4 Hours of Work

Trail Work - 5/11/24

Cleared several large downed trees, cleared a bunch of overgrowth, and adjusted and armored a small wet section of trail, as well as cleaned up multiple rock gardens. This is an ongoing effort to restore and maintain the river trail at the Big Gunpowder, between Harford and Bel Air Roads, on the south side.

12 Volunteers, 4 Hours of Work

Trail Work - 4/13/24

We worked on restoring the raised trail bed through the very rocky section of the A-side flats, creating some water channels and diversion to help make it more sustainable. Drains were also cleared and persistent mud holes de-mucked and remediated. Great turn out today!

26 Volunteers, 3.5 Hours of Work

Trail Work - 3/9/24

Work included extensive storm clean up, scraping muck / sand, clearing drains, and restoring stream crossings. One crossing on the flats was adjusted as the original was no longer passable and multiple alternate crossings had begun to form. Two groups worked separately to focus on  the flats and Amy's Trail.

19 Volunteers, 4 Hours of Work

Trail Work - 2023

Another busy year! We created a raised trail bed on low-lying sections of the Flats, to make the trail more weather-resistant and usable throughout the year, gave some love to the Big Gunpowder trails, maintenance of the Flats and significant trimming as always, rerouted a portion of the Guyton Flats, where we were losing trail, created additional parking at the Laurel Brook / Bottom road parking area and built up and reinforced the section of trail near the Triple Creek crossing.

104 Volunteers, 1,294 Hours of Work

Trail Work - 2022

Lots of work done, including a reroute on the flats by the first stream crossing with armoring and a reroute at the meadow, used water diversions and grade reversals to make the "Wildcat climb" more sustainable and accessible, improved a washed out section of trail along the white blaze trail off Bottom Rd, rerouted the fire road section of the Quarry Trail, built the foundation for the scout bridge on the Flats and did significant work on the white trail where it intersects A Boy Named Sue.

124 Volunteers, 1,236 Hours of Work

Got back to a more normal work schedule this year and got plenty done. Work included rebuilding the stream crossing on the Flats, eliminating persistent mudholes on Trombone, water control on the Winterfell descent, improvements to Jesse's Trail near Bel Air Rd and water diversion on the climb to the Railroad, as well as work on the entrances to the Bottom Rd Trail and Tears of Tom.

A productive year where we worked on what is now the new Jesse's Trail, built a bridge on that trail, built a double plank bridge off of Harford Rd, an Amy's Trail reroute and small bridge, built an earthen bridge near the entrance to a Boy Named Sue, a Horse Poop loop reroute, a reroute near the Overlook and what is now the Bel Air Rd side of the Quarry Trail.

111 Volunteers, 878 Hours of Work

Trail Work - 2018

Seven trail work events this year resulted in a shifted waterfall trail, with some rock armoring in the middle, water diversion in the meadow, a reroute of the white trail, just off of Bottom Rd, a significant effort to create a more beginner-friendly line on the flats between Harford and Bel Air Rds and a raised turnpike as well, repaired the eroded side trail by the steps off of the Bel Air Rd parking lot and rerouted the trail that descends from the rail bed below Petticoat Junction.

106 Volunteers, 531 Hours of Work

Trail Work - 2017

A very active year started with  relocating a  structure to cover and protect a bee hive oven at Jerusalem Mill. Then there was the switchback to the railbed, a waterfall trail reroute, a bridge build to replace the Pleasantville plank, clearing of Railroad Pass 3, some raised trail beds, a new hiker crossing at the top of the waterfall and lastly, the trail that parallels Bottom Rd. There were some big rides, with 50+ people for the MORE Discovery Ride and 30+ for the 3rd Annual Memorial Ride for Jesse.

101 Volunteers, 532 Hours of Work

Trail Work - 2016

Work included inproving the meadow reroute and reclaiming the old trail, rock work and a raised trail bed between Bel Air and Harford Rds, the Trestle Ridge trail and the bridge, Flats work as usual, reroute of the white trail between Bottom Rd and Pleasantville Rd, near the slick rock and a reroute of the Hasselhoff descent.

91 Volunteers, 337 Hours of Work

Trail Work - 2015

Plenty of work was done, but before we really started documenting it! The chicken wire bridge was rebuilt, twice, on The B-Side flats and a muddy stretch of the Flats was rerouted into the meadow, to name a couple.

High Water in the Park - June 2015

Water ravaged through the park after heavy rains. Reroute created away from the bank that is eroding away.  Trail tread with ankle deep water showed where we needed to cut some drains.
